CDFriedrich inspiriert is a virtual and immersive exhibition about Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich. Located in the former tourist information building at the market square, the exhibition functions both as a multimedia monument and a virtual gallery.

Visitors are invited to step into Friedrich’s world through two main exhibition rooms and an introductory area, where floor-to-ceiling video projections bring his vision to life. The experience offers a unique opportunity to see the surrounding landscape through the painter’s eyes and to gain insight into his creative process—from initial sketches to finished works.

Combining art, nature, and history, CDFriedrich inspired not only celebrates the beauty of Saxon Switzerland, but also provides a powerful and poetic space to rediscover one of Germany’s most important artists.

My main contributions to the project were as follows: animation of one movie, an animatic for each film, research of suitable projectors, 3D visualization of the exhibition, diashow for the entrance installation and the respective brightsign configuration.

The Path

The Path traces my personal memories and influences, unfolding a journey that began with the absence of what is often considered a fundamental human feeling—sexual attraction and desire.

As viewers follow the path, they can control which memories are revealed through the projection. The work explores the tension between following societal expectations, the inner struggle for understanding, and ultimately reaching a place of acceptance.

This immersive installation invites the audience to explore two contrasting futures in the year 2050. 'Post Anthropocene' envisions a world where both climate and society have found new balance, while 'Humans Inc' presents a scenario of social progress overshadowed by ecological decline.

Through voice commands, visitors can seamlessly shift between everyday spaces—living spaces, campus squares, cafeterias, shopping malls—within each world. Hand gestures allow for a navigation through these environments. The installation draws a thread between present-day decisions and their long-reaching echoes, offering a sensory journey into the futures we are shaping today.

taking space, changing shape

The work abstracts the feminine shape by combining organic forms in an intuitive way and by having an inflatable headpiece that takes space right in the moment. It draws on the fact that the designer is uncomfortable with taking space and displaying herself like she is doing as the model in these pictures. Yet, taking space and demonstrating oneself is crucial in this world and the work allowed the designer to approach this in a creative manner.

taking space, changing shape also explores the possibility of having a different shape than what society considers as the beauty standard. Space to demonstrate and fulfill oneself is provided more for females that fit a certain mold. However, space, not only in the literal sense, should be provided to everyone, no matter the shape one fits in and the oftentimes random focus society has in the moment.

Research on what it means to be and experience ‘the other’. My brother is autistic and my relationship to him is distant. Respecting his privacy concerns and wishes, the project resulted in showcasing his loved belongings – blue clothes, lego sculptures, books about dinosaurs and lists.

Autistic people are known for hyper fixating on certain objects and interests and keeping order. The items are draped before a piece of fabric that has been in our family home forever, paying homage to the fact that this has effects each family member.

This work shows printed pictures with statements and pictures of a variety of people, asking people to combine different statements and portraits (most of them are computer generated and not real people). The goal was to make people realize which combination is tougher for them to imagine and to reflect on why that is. The work will have a different effect on each person, based on their biases and prejudices which result from their upbringing, environment and experiences.

    valid

    short film, stickers

Valid is a short observation film which follows me contemplating about and redefining different means of validation. Through visual research of stickers that are being used to display a certain value of consumer objects, the redesign of them and further distribution, the first steps are taken in the process.

Finally, the distribution is being documented, and paired with a personal voiceover, which results in the final piece. The approach of this work is a multi-layered one: voiceover - distribution - redesign - analysis. This draws on the fact that often a hierarchy of institutions is at play with actors giving power and authority to different actors which only then have the right to assess and inform about values.

Valid wants to put attention on the fact that this hierarchy and any hierarchy, really, can be questioned and that the act of defining and believing an authority is intertwined with the ability to trust information they are offering.

Yet, information is often believed without having recognized which institutions one trusts. Valid reflects on this randomness and the naive positive belief that is often followed by it.
